Rick had me at “were you born an asshole” in his chapter on authenticity. Being a leader isn’t about you. Be in love with the shape of you; be there for the people you lead. Be authentically vulnerable. Leadership and authenticity mean being genuine. Be the leader people don’t want to leave and everyone will be singing from the same sheet of music!

Guaranteed to be the most fun management book you read this decade. Maybe because Lozano is an engaging presenter rather than the professor type, he is able to give a balanced view. For instance, Lozano tells you about authenticity, but it is balanced by advice on "don't be an a...hole." Again, how to eliminate wasted meeting time is capped by a note about when face2face meetings are vital. Nice "get the muck" out chapter. Nice discussion about how to allow opportunities to subordinates. I especially like the repeated citations to other good management books, along with a summary sentence or two, as we went along. Naming others is considered generous on a music stage; here it is generous to the reader. Great book – good info and actual fun.
